THE ANTIOCH ASSOCIATION AND WHEN CONSTITUTED

To the Saints of God,

The Antioch Association was constituted in 1869, by Ban Ivans, Burrell Williams, Columbus McCombs, Moses Jackson, Jackson Jackson, John Terrance, Jack Matthews, W.M. Banks, George Banks, Charles Smart, Sebram King, Elder Fields - pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church of Macon, and Elder Bassie, recommended by Elder Tennesson, White Primitive Baptist, of Calhoun County.

Elder Solomon Jordan came from Houston County of Baker about this time.  He and Brethren:  Charles Smart, McCombs, and Tennesson met at Gatewood Stand, Baker County and agreed to organize the Association, the Colored Primitive Baptists.  This was constituted at Guildfield Church, in the city of Macon, in 1870, Friday before the second Sunday in October, by the twelve churches, Bethel- Smithville, GA Burrell Williams, Pastor; Mt. Pleasant- Baker County S. King, Pastor; Mt. Mary- Calhoun County, S. King Pastor; and John Terrance, Clerk; Mt. Calvary- Dougherty County Albert Rowl Pastor; Bethlehem- Lee County  George Banks Pastor;  Mt. Olive- Webster County Booker King Pastor; and Robert Walker, Deacon; Mt.                 We are constituted, believing in one true and living God; and in the doctrine of eternal and particular election.  We believe in man’s impotency to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature of his own free will and ability.

The first introductory sermon was preached by Brother Nathan Hodge, from the 14th Chapter of St. John:  “Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would not have told you."
